ور غوره به طوطکی فزاید         رنگ گل ارغوان نماید

When the unripe grape, in parrot green's care,
The dye takes on a Judas flower flair.

The reason the parrot green paper changes color when dipped in unripe grape is perhaps due to a pH change caused by the acidic nature of unripe grapes.

In Majmu’at al-sanaye (1005 A.H. /1596 A.D), the recipe describes several purple shades of colors, including Judas flower (arğavān), recommending the immersion of green paper in redwood dye. The specific type of green dye used is not mentioned in the recipe.

رنگ ارغوانی سبز را بآب بقم برآورند

To create a Judas flower's hue, immerse green paper in redwood dye.
