Plant Mucilage

Mucilage in plants plays a role in the storage of water and food, seed germination, and the thickening of membranes. Many mucilaginous drugs are widely used in Unani medicine as therapeutic agents, correctives, and pharmaceutical aids, called Lu‘ab (لعاب) in Persian and in Unani medicine. They are also widely used as thickeners, emulsion stabilizers, water-retention agents, suspending agents, and binders in different industries.
